If you’ve been in an auto accident and are filing an insurance claim, Minnesota law protects your right to choose how and where your vehicle is repaired.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. You Choose The Shop
It is your legal right to select the repair facility. Once you’ve told your insurance company your choice, it’s illegal for them to pressure you into using another shop.
2. Repairs Must Restore Your Vehicle
Your insurance company must cover all costs necessary to return your vehicle to its pre-accident condition.
3. You Have a Say in the Parts Used
By law, insurers cannot require you to accept non-OEM (aftermarket) parts. You are entitled to original equipment (OE) parts or parts of like kind and quality.
4. Turn to Trusted Professionals
A qualified collision repair professional will recommend the correct parts, materials, and procedures to ensure your vehicle is repaired properly and safely.
